Will A Christian Still Sin
68Will A Christian Still Sin ?
“But you know that he appeared so that he might take away our sins. And in him is no sin. No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him. “
I John 3 : 6 – 7
Is it true that once a person becomes a Christian, he will not commit sin anymore ?
That once a person becomes a Christian, he ceased from sinning ?
This is my conviction, a Christian will still be tempted to sin, he is still capable of sinning, and may fall anytime to sin.
There are some groups that teach that a person once becomes a Christian, he will not commit sin anymore or he will cease from sinning. But the Apostle John himself speaks on I John 2:1 ;
“My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defense, JesusChrist , the Righteous One. “
He also wrote in I John 1:8 ;
“If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”
I believe, that a person once becomes a christian will still be tempted to sin. But he becomes different from an unbeliever, by the fact that sinning is no longer his lifestyle.
A Christian is different from an unbeliever in their lifestyle, For an unbeliever or non-christian sinning is his lifestyle. His sinful nature rules his thoughts, words and deeds. All his thoughts and intentions are in defiant against God and His will.
For a true Christian, he may still be tempted to sin but sinning is no longer his lifestyle. His sinful nature has been deposed , a new nature from God invaded his being. He has been partaker of the Divine nature through the spiritual rebirth upon accepting Christ as his personal Savior and Lord. The sinful nature is no longer controlling his life. He has been liberated from his sinful nature.
I believe the beloved Apostle John meant this in I John 3:6, it speaks more about the lifestyle of a believer or the general pattern of his life. There is a pattern of decreasing occurrence of sin in a true christian’s lifestyle. Sinning is no longer the lifestyle of a true child of God. For he had been set free from the power of darkness and brought into the marvelous Kingdom of the Son. As Christ is victorious on the cross, the true child of God is victorious over his sins. There will come a time in his life that he may fall to sin, but he will not remain there for a prolonged period of time. Once he fall, he will rise again and will set his feet to pursue the will of God, which is righteousness and holiness. A Christian will be victorious because the Holy Spirit indwells him at the time of his spiritual birth, and gives the Christian the power to overcome sin. Without the power of the Holy Spirit, defeating the flesh is a very difficult task or somewhat an impossible task.

Cristina, a wonderful thought challenging hub!
I agree that Christians do sin, "If we claim we have not sinned (John was relating to Christians), we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives." 1 John 1:10.
Thus, it would seem, Christians still sin. It is more than being "tempted" to sin. We sin. To not sin is to be perfect which we are not. The difference is Christians are sinners saved by the grace of God. The BLOOD of Jesus covers our sins and thus, God does not count it against us. We do not INTENTIONALLY sin, nevertheless, we sin even when we are not consciously aware of it. God looks on the heart, the attitude, the INTENT. So, in this sense, we are held blameless for sins we commit.
Though it is not possible to live a totally holy and sinless life (Only Jesus accomplished this), all glory to God, He has set us free from slavery to sin. A true believer's life will not be characterized by sin on a daily basis, or any other consistent basis.
As you said, "Sinning is no longer the lifestyle of a true child of God." And as we grow in God's grace, we become like trees planted by the rivers of waters. Sanctification, though, is a lifelong process.
Love and peace,
Forever His,
Christ was our sin on the cross, and if he died then our sin died too. If our sin is dead then according to God we cannot sin, even if we do sin, and our sin does not affect our life or get judged by it by God.
Only Satan and man judge man according to our sins, and hold man against his wrongs.Rom 2:1
Covered by Jesus blood gives us this guarantee that we are free in his blood by his suffering in your/my place.
The judgment has taken place. We are free as sinners, and Gods plan is to fill heaven with sinners that are believers, not self righteous that say they don't sin.
Be free
Peace
The righteousness that we follow is from what the Holy Spirit does in us, and not what we think say or do, but this happens because we are the Righteousness of Christ and New creatures, Born Again. We are seated on the right hand of the Father in Christ for ever.
Peace

I agree with you what you said "There is a pattern of decreasing occurrence of sin in a true christian’s lifestyle. Sinning is no longer the lifestyle of a true child of God. For he had been set free from the power of darkness and brought into the marvelous Kingdom of the Son."
There are still periods of temptation while life lasts. Tell me did or did not Peter fall into sinning three times when he denied Jesus. He was one of the 12 apostles.
The wonderful thing is when he repents, God forgives him.
You also said, "For a true Christian, he may still be tempted to sin but sinning is no longer his lifestyle."
A Christian may be 20 years old when he accepted Christ, but he may live up to 80 years. During the period of time, surely Satan would certainly try to take down. Why did Jesus in the Lord's Prayer say, Forgive us our trespasses."
We are meant to say the Lord's Prayer every day and night. It is so we can keep ourselves clean and pure every day as the words of God cleanse us from sin.

ANSWER TO HOWANTSTONO
I strongly object to what you said that our sin does not affect our life or get judged by it by God.
God judges all sin.
Hebrews 10:26
For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins.
1 Timothy 4:1
Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depaart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils.
Hebrews 3:12
Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.
Cristina, hold on to your faith. What you have written is absolutely correct! God bless.
Very interesting hub. I learned a lot from all the comments as well. God Bless You.
A lot of food for thought. Even so, we should all read and meditate in the Bible.
I came across one of your website.
I am a defeated christian. I have been involved in pronography, stealing, lustfulness. I have confessed my sins before but fell back into sin over and over. I have made things right with those I have taken from. And I am now working on taking care of making things right with two people. I came across a statement from the early church which says that you only have one repentence. And I have read about willful sins. I gave up pronography last December and other lustful habits in Feburary. But my heart condemns me. I have been baptisted twice. I have seen visions of hell. Why then do I feel the fear of Hebrews 6 and 10 and willful sins. I am done with sin. But I need peace within me. Not fear. I can not sleep, I do not want to get up. I am so fearful of my past life. Do I have hope? Please email me at randylough@yahoo.com

Oh Praise God for the Victory of a sinless savior! Without Jesus we would all be doomed to damnation, and eternal death. But by God's gracious love He sent Jesus and my sin...no matter how horrendous has been atoned for and no longer holds sway over me. Thanks for the words of encouragement and life.

Thank you this wonderful, gracious Hub. Surely everybody sins. To me, the difference is in recognizing and repenting for sin, versus ignoring it or even being proud of it. Habitual sin is a sign of serious spiritual trouble.
vERY GOOD HUB PAGE ABOUT A VERY IMPORTANT TOPIC!I certainly cannot speak for everyone but as far as I myself am concerned I still fall. The difference is that the Spirit convicts me when I do sin which leads to repentance. Oh what a wonderful Savior we have!!!
Thank you for bringing this topic into discussion. There are many things to be said concerning this and these comments are but a small token of a deep subject matter. My understanding is limited to my experience and intellect both of which are flawed. I remember the season of King David's life where he obviously lived in rebellion against the One true living God for some time. He was called by God Himself as a man after Gods own heart. It is God who calls a man by name and the process of changing a mans heart can sometimes take years. 10's of years. This after he has shown true faith but fallen into a lifestyle that denies God's authority. I feel the pain of Randy Lough and I love the encouragement of your writing.
Yes we do sin, we may or may not want to. All have fallen short. If we could be good enough then we wouldn’t need Jesus. Jesus knew we couldn’t be good enough. That’s why he gave his self for us. That is why He is so awesome! We can not change people. It is God who changes people, we can not even change our self, we must however, work with God to change. The very fact that a Christian feels bad about a sin, I believe is an indication that God is with them. God is working with them. The great news is God is there!!! Now this is going to be gross, if your dog, the dog you have had all your life, you feed it, play with it, take it places etc. Now this dog whom you have raised from a pup and loved with all your heart. This dog begins to eat his own pooh. Gross! Nasty! UGH!! But even though you hate this activity, it totally grosses you out, and it is way off of an acceptable behavior, the dog continues to do this and it is apparent it knows you don’t like it. Do you still love the dog? Of course you do! You may offer it some other treat, but the dog still eats the yuck! You still love the dog, you try some other things, this goes on and on until one day!!!! Its a done deal the dog doesn’t do it. Now God is much more loving and caring then even the best of us. I believe He kind of feels like that, He hates the activity, it disgusts Him but He loves us anyways. He continues to help us to get over the activity. Don’t give up on yourself, God has not given up or you, nor will He. I will never leave you nor forsake you says the Lord. Let us pray for one another in Jesus Name, Amen.
jesus was sinless
we just sin less often, and less often, and less often. Until we are not what we were a year ago, or 2 yrs ago or a decade ago... We have become a new person in christ jesus.
:0)
Thank God for his abundant mercy and grace that when we sin, He forgives us. But this should not give us an excuse to sin. If we truly say that we are in Christ, we have died to our old self, so that "sinning is no longer our lifestyle." By living in the new way of the Spirit, we are able to live victoriously over sin.
Very nice hub and lots of enlightening comments as well. God bless.
Christina, I have heard the doctrine that Christians don't sin. What a demonic doctrine! You have given us all the scriptures that prove we do sin, but grow(by the power of the Holy Spirit)having learned to resist the devil. Excellent article for truth seekers.

answered this yourself no one who truly lives in him will or can continue to sin because there is no sin in him so you and i being in him must remain free from sin. if we remain in his word we will be in his will which means we recieve his faver, smile.
