Seeking Great Things
64Seeking Great Things
The Lord said, “ say to him : ‘this is what the Lord says : I will overthrow what I have built and uproot what I have planted , throughout the land. Should you then seek great things for yourself ? Seek them not. For I will bring disaster on all people , declares the Lord, but wherever you go I will let you escape with your life.”
Jeremiah 45: 4-5
Greatness, that’s what everybody longs for to achieve. What could be greater than earning a six-digit income, driving a fast BMW, living in one of the country’s high-end communities with substantial bank reserves.
Seeking for “great things” in this world is just natural for every young man and woman in this world. They tirelessly work hard to achieve these ” great things.” But seeking for “great things” in the world may not bring glory to God. For many times these “great things” in the world serve as idols in the heart.
Seeking for “great things” may cause misery to someone’s life. If someone is obsessed with these “great things , he will do everything just to possess these great things. If he failed to achieve these “great things” inspite of his efforts , it will give misery to his heart. It will make him a miserable person. Then this is not honorable to God.
Jesus says in one of His gospels , “ to be highly esteemed by the world is an abomination in God’s eyes.” Seeking greatness in the eyes of the wicked world should never be the goal of every true believer of Christ. A true Christian must desire first and foremost that God will be glorified in his life . Seeking “great things” in this world may cause his heart to wander away from his pure devotion to Christ .
The people of this world seek these “great things” in this world They live out their lives in vain pursuing their selfish ambitions for they are living lives alienated from the knowledge of God. They are living their lives apart from the will of God , and they are not seeking to fulfill His Divine will and purposes in their lives.
What good it is if you achieve greatness in the yes of the world but you don’t have the approval of God ? The truth is everything will come to an end. Nothing here on earth is bound to last forever. Everything here on earth will be destroyed. Everything on earth one day will be melted by fire. This world has long been under God’s judgement. All earthly successes are just temporal and are not destined for eternity. Only the Kingdom of God will last for all eternity. You may find yourself great in the eyes of the world, but if you are doomed for eternity, what is that greatness for ?
Why seek for earthly greatness when in the end it will be destroyed? For us Christians, the best thing in the world is to pursue for the fulfillment of God’s purposes in our lives. For true greatness lie here, True greatness is being great in the eyes of the great and awesome God of the universe. It is better not to be great in the eyes of the world and live for the glory of God. We rather seek to bring glory and honor to God rather than seek to be great in the eyes of the wicked world. We may not become wealthy and famous in the standard of the world, but seeking to fulfill God’s will is the best way to live our earthly life. Be always reminded of what is written in I John 2:17:
“The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever.”

I was just thinking today about the verse "what does it profit a man to gain the whole world but lose his own soul". This hub puts it all together for me. Thanks for sharing.
Ate Cristina this is beautiful. The one thing I have to ask myself constantly is: The greatness I seek to achieve, is it for personal glory so that others can see "ME" as great, OR, is it to glorify my Father, for I MUST constantly decrease, in order four My God to increase in "ME". God and I are a "TEAM" but God leads the team.
What an uplifting message that brings spiritual strength and to behold and meditate upon God's lovingkindness towards us.
This makes me think oh Joshua 1:8--"This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success." Greatness, success, only comes from focusing on God. Thanks for another terrific hub.
cristina, how many try to seek something which is no good for them.
Jesus did say "Seek ye first the kingdom of God and all other things will be added unto you"
I try to do just that, and praise God I'm getting there, as God opens the doors for me which I could not do.
Thanks Cristina!
Everything is going up in smoke eventually and where does it leave us? We should be content with what we have and leave everything to God. His grace is sufficient for us in our live time. Thank the Lord.
Cristina, Wonderful & Insightful! Much to ponder here! As you so marvelously stated:"For us Christians, the best thing in the world is to pursue for the fulfillment of God’s purposes in our lives. For true greatness lie here, True greatness is being great in the eyes of the great and awesome God of the universe. It is better not to be great in the eyes of the world and live for the glory of God. We rather seek to bring glory and honor to God rather than seek to be great in the eyes of the wicked world" Amen! AMen!! & AMEN!!! Our first and most important priority should be to "Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness..." The Word teaches us that everything else we need will follow!
Thank You for sharing, In HIS Love, Grace, Joy, Peace & Blessings!
Cristina many thanks I got your eml so now you will be receiving more already I sent some your way, Why seek great things , this give many to say how and why they do this and WHY they do it. as we all go thro life to what we call life, we do go out and seek most times what we don't need, or we try to compete with the next door people, seeking what we don't really want, for years now I only seek the forgiveness for all my sins, I seek the LOVE that Jesus has for me, I seek the right path to walk on, if I seek the worldly things what good are they to me when I die, BUT to seek and find our Lord what a great reward that is to have. Good Hub dear friend

Words of wisdom to live by! As I sit here reading this, my hubby is watching a video of Alex Jones and his view of the end of days, and corruption of the government. It is interesting to listen to both the scientific worldly view and to know the Christian end of day view. The warnings are all around us. Are we going to seek greater things, or God? Jeremiah 45:4-5 makes perfect sense to me.
