Hindrances To Becoming The Person God Wants You To Be
75Hindrances To Becoming The Person God Wants You To Be
God has a perfect will for each of His precious children. This perfect will is the best plan for our lives. True success is measured by the fulfillment of God’s perfect will in our lives. We can say that our lives is a success if we were able to fulfill God’s mission for our lives. Then and only then we can say that we have become the person God wants us to be. But many times Christians are not living in the center of God’s will for their lives so they failed in becoming what God wants them to be. So they missed God’s perfect will for their lives and their lives turned out to be a life in vain.
No matter how successful you have become by the world standard, missing God’s perfect will for your life makes your life futile and meaningless. The only thing that will stand out for eternity is the perfect will of God. Why many Christians are missing God’s perfect will for their lives and hindered them from becoming what God wants them to be. Here are several reasons why we miss the best from God or hindrances to becoming the person God wants us to be.
Christianity Without Yielding to the Lordship of Christ
To become what God wants us to be we should completely submit ourselves to the Lordship of JesusChrist. Christ must be a hundred person Lord of all the areas of our lives. He must be Lord of our relationships, careers, business, family life, leisure, time, money, etc. If Christ is not a hundred percent Lord of all areas of our lives then He is not Lord at all.
Even as Christians, God gives us freedom in choosing. But we must use this freedom to give glory to God. The choices we make can either make us or break us. We must always make a choice that will not compromise our faith. If we do not submit to the Lordship of Christ in making choices, we will end up in doing wrong choices that we will later regret. It may lead our lives to a disastrous end. Many young people’s lives were ruined and missed God’s best for their lives because they do not submit to Christ’s lordship in their relationships Many Christian women missed God’s best for their marriages because they unequally yoked with unbelievers. Only in yielding completely to the lordship of Christ we will accomplish God’s perfect plan for our lives.
Striving With God
How do we strive with God ? One way is through disobedience. It is written in Acts 5:29, “Obey God rather than men.” You should obey God rather than yourselves. Obey God rather the desires and intentions of your hearts. For men’s hearts are deceitful above al lthings. Maybe you have a dream to live and work in other country, but God makes it clear to you that you should serve Him in your country. You should forget this dream of living in another country and concentrate on serving God in your country. Disobedience from God’s will will bring you dissatisfaction and unhappiness. It will not give you a peaceful life. Just take the example of what happened to Jonah, God’s prophet.
Pride
It is written in Proverbs 16:18, “Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before fall.”
Many great potentials went unfulfilled because of pride. There are so many potential teachers, pastors, servants, deacons, singers who have not reached their goals in the ministry because of pride. Because they keep on competing with their fellow workers. They do not learn to accept their mistakes. They do not learn how to humble themselves. They insist on their mistakes. What happen to people who are ruled by pride ? The potential does not happen. The piece of rock remain a piece of rock. You need the Lord as sculptor to curve you into what you should become. The Lord wants us to remain humble. Because humble people are able to keep friends. Proud people are not able make or keep friends. Proud people are not able to maintain and keep ministry because they cannot work with their fellow workers. Proud people cannot become team workers. If you are humble, you are a winner. You will be loved and cared for and people will be around you.
Look at the husband and wife who are striving with pride towards each other. Their marriage ends in divorce. But if they will be humble towards each other, their marriage will be spared.
Stubborness and Lack of Teachability
It is written in Proverbs 29:1, “ A man who remain stiff-necked after many rebuke will suddenly be destroyed without remedy.” The people who remain stubborn after many warnings are suddenly destroyed and cannot rise up. We must learn to submit to the moral precepts of the Bible. We should be willing to forsake a lifestyle which is not consistent with what the bIble teaches. People who are living apart from honoring God’s statutes and moral precepts usually are people whose lives are easily ruined and destroyed.
Laziness
We need to work hard especially at becoming what God wants us to be. We should go where God wants us to be and not go where God does not want us to go. That is a lot of hardwork. We should also serve the Lord and His ministry. Laziness hinders the progress of the Kingdom of God in our lives. Because of laziness many people’s spiritual lives remain stagnant. Because they do not want to exert extra effort to study the Word more closely, they do not want to exert extra effort to read Christian books, they do not want to exert extra effort to attend Christian conferences that will contribute to their Christian maturity, they remain stagnant in their spiritual growth.
Intention Without Action
Another obstacle to becoming what we should be is intention without action. You have a plan to be holy but you cannot do. You have a plan to stop your vices but it remain a plan. One good act is better than a thousand good intentions. Intentions don’t do anything, actions do. What is your intention in your Christian life? Do you have an intention to join a ministry ? You better do it now.
Complacency or Contentment on Flying Low
To be content on flying too low is another hindrance to becoming the person what God wants us to be. Should we be content on becoming a Christian without a ministry ? This is the way to live our Christian life. To be involved. Not just be an audience. Not being content on flying too low spiritually. Don’t be satisfied with just being a mediocre Christian. Strive for excellence. The Master deserves our very best. We should strive harder to be more holy, more humble, more productive, more Christlike, more submissive, more hardworking. We should not be complacent with our spirituality.

The greatest hindrance (in my opinion) is to think we can do it on our own. So many struggle even after accepting Christ and it breaks my heart because it really is so simple. Every step is laid out for us in the Bible "and the greatest of these is love." Humans tend to make it more complicated and search for more. In my own life, I decided deliberately to grow the fruits of the spirit and keep that vision in my mind. If I lose patience(example) I envision a dark spot and immediately ask for forgiveness and every time I grow stronger and closer to the Father. Obedience, love, faith, action. They are for our own protection.
Thanks for a nice devotional.
Cristina,
I have heard many sermons about how to lead a Christian life. Your hub, I feel, contains every nugget of truth contained in the majority of those sermons. For me, the largest hurdle in becoming the person God wants me to become is me, myself, and I. Total submission to God, although a grand goal of mine, is the single-most difficult task I face every day. To me, this is affirmation of why I, and all of us, need a perfect Savior, Jesus. Our spirit can be strong, but our flesh is weak. Thank you for bringing such truth.
Blessings,
RJ
What you have here so very true Cristena, I think that a person who is trying to become a christian will find many hinderences that will come at them most of the time, and they will have problems to get past them, as they may look more attractive to them.
This is where the devil will throw everything at them to stop them from leaving him.
But I feel that when the true message is given to them the way we have been taught to give it then others will see that there is a better way to live and then the hindrences will be less.
God loves all
Ate Cristina: Becoming Christian is the easy choice, but managing to stay on the path set by God is the difficult choice. Salvation is gained, but through our deeds graces are earned as are our heavenly rewards.
Cristina,
I think you covered all the bases. Thanks for a very thorough job on this topic. Now, if your readers will just follow the advise and direction you've given!

I am always blessed when reading your material Maria Cristina. You are so right when you say; True success is measured by the fulfillment of God’s perfect will in our lives. Pointing out the reasons why we miss God’s best for us and the hindrances to becoming the person God wants us to be is great practical help. I know God will use this hub if people will only be humble enough to listen and obey. God bless you as you strive to be in the perfect will of God.
